Linktree popularised the one-link bio page, then steadily moved its best features — analytics, themes, email capture — onto paid plans. If you're hunting for a genuinely free alternative, the trick is reading what "free" means on each pricing page.
What to check before you switch
- Link limits. Some tools cap free accounts at 5–10 links. If you're a musician with releases or a maker with products, you'll hit that in a week.
- Analytics. Click counts are table stakes; many tools lock even totals behind a subscription.
- Branding. Almost every free tier shows the provider's badge. Fair enough — but know which ones let you remove it and at what price.
- Email capture. Your audience list is the one asset the platform can't take away. Free plans rarely include it.
- Your own domain. The feature nobody offers cheaply: serving your page from links.yourname.com instead of theirs.
The honest comparison
Linktree — polished, huge ecosystem, but the free plan is a teaser: limited customisation, no email capture, analytics basics only. Paid starts around US$5/mo and climbs.
Beacons — generous free tier with an audience focus, but takes a 9% transaction fee on free-plan sales, and the editor pushes its paid AI features hard.
Bio.link — genuinely simple and free, with the basics done well. Limited theming and no email capture; fine if you only need a list of links.
Carrd — not a link-in-bio tool exactly, but a brilliant one-page site builder. Free tier is real; custom domains and forms need the (cheap) Pro plan. More setup work than the others.
WebLink (that's us) — unlimited links, full theming, click analytics and email capture are all on the free plan, because the free tier is the product, not a demo. The paid Team plan adds white-labelling (no badge), premium animated backgrounds, and your own custom domain with HTTPS.
The bottom line
If you just need links on a page, several tools above will do it free. If you want the audience-building parts — email capture, real analytics — without a subscription, the field narrows fast. And if you eventually want your page on your own domain, check the price of that upgrade before you invest in building your page somewhere.
