Google Forms deserves its popularity: it's free, reliable, and everyone has a Google account. We recommend it often. But it was built as a survey tool feeding a spreadsheet, and it shows the moment you use it for anything customer-facing.

Where Google Forms falls short

  • It looks like Google, not like you. Theming is minimal; your brand is a header image at best.
  • Responses live in a spreadsheet. No read/unread state, no spam filtering, no "mark as handled" — triaging real enquiries in Sheets gets old fast.
  • Alerts are clunky. Native email notifications are all-or-nothing and easy to miss; most people bolt on an add-on.
  • The URL is a mouthful. docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQL… doesn't inspire confidence on a business card or QR code.

What to look for in an alternative

Match the tool to the job. Typeform is beautiful for surveys but expensive for volume. Jotform is powerful and enterprise-ish, with a tight free tier (100 submissions/month — an industry-standard cap, and one we think is fair, since we use the same number). Tally is a lovely Notion-flavoured option with generous free limits.
